With all the debate in the Legislature about reforming education, what do you recommend? Is it Empowerment, All-day kindergarten, or something else? What's relevant? Let us know.

You have touched on a key concept here in my opinion.
I have often wondered why teachers are not consulted in terms of solving our educational crisis. Who better understands what is going on inside the classrooms across this state?
Legislators, politicians, school board members, district administrators, school building administrators, and other people in general all have ideas, but if they are not based on input from 'real' teachers will any of them truly succeed?
SB404 and empowerment schools were steps in the right direction in my opinion, but more needs to be done and with less bureaucracy.
I personally believe that more technology and more individualization need to be brought to bear at the elementary level to prepare students for success in middle school. I have outlined my ideas at the following website: www.connect2children.com, and I would be happy to discuss them with anyone that is interested.
In my opinion, more teachers need to step forward with broad-based solutions to our educational dilemma. I do not feel that my ideas are by any means the only way. I simply present them to you as a teacher in an inner city school setting and as someone who knows that they work.
